Visible Self-Defense

These skills teach the student on how to handle violence and aggression. All Homedo students- whether strong, weak, old, young, tall, or short- are able to respond towards attacks. The central skill one learns is to develop a chi-based center.

The first and fundamental response to an attack is a two-step technique. The first step involves "welcome"- connecting with the aggressor's energy. The welcome essentially neutralizes the aggressive energy. The second move is to say "goodbye"- turning the aggressor's energy against himself.

Homedo has developed many variations of "welcome and goodbye" techniques. Students learn to vary the practice using different moves with the arms, different turns, and weapons such as long and short sticks, double sticks, and swords. Weapons make it possible to defend oneself with little or no actual body contact with the aggressor- important in an era where blood contact can be as dangerous as combat itself.

Invisible Self-Defense

The Healing Arts. These classes teach the student to promote good health and protect the body from illnesses. Students concentrate on developing pure chi awareness, with techniques such as Skin Breathing, Baby Bird Flying, and Tree Standing. Homedo students also learn acupressure techniques. With the human touch applied to meridian points that were identified thousands of years ago, pain, stress, and illnesses can be healed or reduced in a matter of minutes.

Children Vs. Cultural Violence and Body Pollution. Children are bombarded with television, computers, and junk food. They spend little timegetting to know their own bodies. In children's Homedo classes, they hear this message:

Our Body is Our Home. Don't Trash It.

This message, as simple as it sounds, resonates with youngsters. In class, they explore issues about smoking, drugs, alcohol, and poor nutrition. Combined with Homedo self defense skills, children learn to explore and respect their bodies, and to fight effectively against violence in many forms.
